SAUPJ Biennial

24–26 July

About the Event

The South African Union for Progressive Judaism (SAUPJ) welcomed Progressive Jewish leaders, educators and community members from across the country to Durban for its 2026 Biennial Conference — a weekend of reflection, spiritual connection and networking, set against the flair and flavours of Durban and South Africa.

This year's theme, Tradition, Organisation, and Innovation, shaped every part of the programme, and framed a weekend that was, at its heart, about continuity: how a movement carries forward what it has built, while making room for who will carry it next.

"

I was so honoured to participate in this wonderfully successful biennial in Durban, attended by such passionate, enthusiastic and committed leaders from across the communities, many of whom were graduates of WUPJ and local leadership programs. While the communities face many challenges, they proudly and actively express their Judaism in so many ways, within the Jewish and broader civil community. Kol Ha'Ka'vod."
